Karen is a native Calgarian, still living in the same community that her grandparents and parents grew up in. She is a single mom with a beautiful daughter who has been able to bless her life by showing her how special a child with special needs can be raised to be a productive, independent member of society. Karen has always been surrounded by children and started babysitting at age 8, babysitting her cousins, working as a nanny, a Girl Guide leader, a classroom mom, as well as sitting on the Board of Directors for a charity that provides low-income youth with a chance to attend camp.
Karen holds multiple post-secondary diplomas, her latest being in Child & Youth Care, but some of her previous diplomas include Forestry & Wildlife Management and Legal Assistant. Karen also take many courses in the evenings and on weekends as she likes to continually expand her knowledge. “If you were to open a reading app on my phone you will quite often find a few books being read at once as I am an avid reader.” Karen also maintains her First Aid Certificate and Psychology First Aid Certificate.
“I love children and believe it takes a village to raise a child, and believe every child is capable of great success. I have a very adventurous spirit and can answer questions that many youth may wonder. I look forward to answering questions about my experiences and getting to know you and your family better.”
